Book Chat Presentation Form Book Chat Presentation Form  Here's a form that might help your child prepare their book chat. Remember that the "speech" needs to be written on notecards so we can put the cards in our "book recommendation index box" for other kids in the class to read.   1 3 months ago

A Visiting Illustrator A Visiting Illustrator  The students had the opportunity to meet an illustrator! Susan Eaddy has illustrated several children's book and has a unique way of doing it! Instead of drawing or painting...she usees clay! She buys clay and colors it. Then she molds the clay into a scene in the book. Next she photographs her clay art and those pictures are what becomes the illlustrations in a book. It was interesting to see her THICK notebook of research that she completes before she every begins work on a book. Each character and EVERY item in the scene is reserached for accuracy. We also were surprised to learn that it is the publishing company that selects the illustrator and NOT the author!  5 12 months ago

Class Time Capsule Class Time Capsule  Each child completed a set of questions which reflected the 4th grade curriculum. Questions like: Who was John Seiver? Illustrate a complete electrical circuit. Decompose this number. The sheets were filed about in a large tube until May. We'll open the tube the last week of school and each child can look back over their answers and realize their own growth this year.  1 3 months ago

Our Class Pictures Our Class Pictures  We have 23 students in our class and their interests are varied! The students shared "My Other Me" bags the first week of school and we learned all about each other's interests. This is a group that enjoys music, collecting coins, playing sports, and drawing pictures. We have also discovered that we all enjoy being together! This is a GREAT class and it's going to be a FUN year!  1 3 months ago

Pinwheels for Peace Pinwheels for Peace  International Peace Day is September 18,  2008. Each child made a pinwheel in art and then  arranged them on the hill to resemble the 5 Olympic rings and torch. We want the "winds of peace" to blow from Edmondson to across our world. LET THERE BE PEACE!  3 3 months ago
Poetry Rhythm Poetry Rhythm  Students read poems and counted the number of syllables in each line. They realized that it was the syllables that created the rhythm in poetry. We listed on the board all of the patterns the kids had discovered i.e. 6-4-4-6   7-6-5-6-7 . To help the kids experience the rhythm, they worked in pairs to create a movement/sound effects to the syllable pattern of their choice. The other students watched the "routine" and then guessed which pattern was demonstrated.  9 2 months ago
