6th grade Art Course Overview
Course description and Objectives:
6th grade art is a 9 week
course for students with interests in the visual arts. Students will be exposed
to a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculptural
processes. This course focuses on the elements of art and the principles of
design and how to use them in various art projects. Along with art production, students will be
introduced to aesthetics, art history, and art criticism.
Units:
Drawing
– media include pencil, colored pencil, marker, and printmaking.
We will study line,
texture, value, color, shape, and space and various drawing techniques.
Painting
– media include oil pastel resist, watercolor and tempera.
We will study the color
wheel, space and color values and various painting techniques.
Sculpture
– media – clay and fiber.
We will study form, texture,
additive and subtractive techniques and the influence of multicultural artists.
