7th grade Art Course Overview

 

Course description and Objectives:

7th grade art is a 9 week course for students with interests in the visual arts. Students will be exposed to a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculptural processes. This course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired from 6th grade Art. The objective of this course is to develop more advanced skills with the various media, especially drawing. Along with art production, students study aesthetics, art history, and art criticism.

 

Units:

Drawing and Composition– media include pencil, colored pencil, marker, collage, and printmaking.

We will study line, texture, value, and various drawing techniques. Graphic design will also be explored.

Painting – media - acrylic.

We will study the color wheel, color schemes, and color mixing techniques.

Sculpture – media – clay, fiber, and glass.

We will study form, texture, additive and subtractive techniques and the influence of multicultural artists.
