Steps we’ve
completed so far:
You have…
·
set up dividers and tabs.
·
completed note-taking on the following sections: vocabulary, character, inference, and
flashback.
·
begun completing cards in the following sections: vocabulary, character, & inference.
Steps we’ll
continue in class:
You will…
·
take notes on theme, & research.
·
complete some cards
on theme & research.
·
learn research strategies and complete research on
specific nonfiction topics related to your novel.
·
learn how to create a bibliography for references.
**You will keep your note cards in a
Ziploc bag in your binder and take your box home to begin steps that you’re
responsible for outside of class.
Steps you’re
responsible for outside of class:
You should…
·
work on any note cards for sections in which you’ve
fallen behind. Refer to your notes to
review specific instructions for completing note cards.
**Remember…note
cards should be written neatly.
·
work on your “Extras” section. (See back for more information.)
·
work on the outside of your shoebox filing cabinet. (See back for more information.)
·
prepare to present shoebox filing cabinet in small groups
on February 29th. As we
approach this date, we’ll make plans for these presentations.
Extras:
In this file,
you should include 3 artifacts that symbolize an important aspect from
your book. Each artifact should include
a caption that explains it. You might
think of representations of the following:
·
a character’s
experience
·
an important
place
·
a conflict in
the story
·
a turning point in
the story
·
an emotional
point in the story
The
possibilities are endless; be creative!
You may use household objects as your artifacts or you may create them.

Outside of the
shoebox:
1.
First, you must cover your
box. Next, use
the diagram

of the shoebox and each

below to plan the outside
4.
of your shoebox.
1. Create a design on the lid of your box that
includes an illustration, title & author of your novel, & your name.
2. Illustrate your favorite scene from the novel
and include a caption OR write a brief review of the book. (Even though we will not have finished at
this point, you will have formed an opinion at this point.)
3. Create a fictional collage of words and
pictures. Think of all of your story
elements as you complete this side of the box.
4. These are the nonfiction ends of your
shoebox. Each end should include 4 major
words or pictures that relate to the historical time period of your novel. Think of the following: important people, important places, important
terminology, and important symbols.
